We admit it, you can get similar products at the supermarket at a lower price than you can at Sheffield Made.
Together with our article on why it’s important to support local producers, we’d like to take a moment to explain about pricing.
We setup Sheffield Made to try and help out everyone in local food and drink production during the COVID-19 lockdown. We asked all producers for their trade prices and added an estimate of what our rent was and staff needed to stay paid and added delivery.
That’s it, there is no profit in our estimates.
Small producers cannot compete with the large purchasing power of supermarkets but they can compete with their quality and ethics.
We are happy that everyone, so far, is staying fed and employed and some of our producers have said that they would have been out of business if it wasn’t for Sheffield Made and their customers.
We have to balance the needs of our producers and the price that people are willing to pay to support local. This isn’t an easy task.
